The very very last copies of some my remaining artists’ books will be on sale with Hot Bed Press at The Manchester Contemporary this weekend. Slow Magic, A House Like Me and Lost at Sea will be there. I’m helping out on Sunday afternoon if you want to pop in and say hi!

Artists’ Books in NYC

On the 22nd Jan I will be heading to New York where I am to be on a panel for a seminar about artists’ books at the Grolier Club. This is happening alongside an exhibition of works from the Women’s Studio Workshop (WSW) collection, entitled ‘Hand. Voice & Vision’. The book which I worked on at WSW in 2007, Unfolding Architecture, is part of the exhibition and I have also written a short text for the exhibition catalogue.

My time at WSW doing the Artists Book residency was really incredible and I am really looking forward to catching up with the staff at the seminar, as well as meeting the other artists on the panel. I also have plans to meet the guys from WAGE, to profile them for a-n’s March issue. I’ll be leaving some space in the suitcase for letterpress ink and drawing papers from the Drawing Center!!

Mercy have put Cardboard Folly in their top five collaborative projects of the year in an article that’s just been published on creativetimes.co.uk. Flattered. I should also take the opportunity to apologise for not having a PDF of it online yet. Each issue takes a couple of hours to assemble, so the poor artists have not even had their copies yet! Soon, very soon!

Back to Yorkshire..

After a long but enjoyable day yesterday at Manchester Artists’ Book Fair (thanks to everyone who bought things!), I am just packing up to go to Yorkshire Sculpture Park tomorrow. After the education bursary, which finished in July, this will be the start of the research and work for my exhibition there in July 2011. I’m just there for a week this time but will be packing my waterproofs, hot water bottle and wellies!

Manchester Contemporary

From 28th – 31st October I will be showing ‘Temporary Measure’ with Axis at The Manchester Contemporary art fair.

Before that, Cardboard Folly will be on display at the Bluecoat from 21st October, so this week will be mainly getting work printed and collating copies. There is so much to do but I have some fantastic artists involved and the work that has already arrived is really great.

On top of that workload, my twin sister is opening a new business, Recrafted, consisting of workshops and a shop selling handmade British craft. It’s already looking amazing, but I have more painting and hand-painted signs to create before the opening on the 15th October. She’s very talented and I’m very pleased she is taking such a big leap to do this. Cupcakes over the opening weekend, so if you’re in the area come and say hi!

The Cooperative, Liverpool

From Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th September, I will be resident in the Cooperative space on Renshaw Street in Liverpool. I’ll be there from 1-5pm every day except Saturday, so please come and see me if you can! I’ll be working on my new publication, ‘Cardboard Folly’ and have invited various artists to come and work with me during the week so we’ll be scrawling things down, cutting, sticking and general plotting!

‘A House Like Me’ book launch

Last Friday was the launch at of ‘A House Like Me’ at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The event was to mark the end of my year as bursary holder for the Feiweles Trust at the Park. I have compiled the book and it is a mix of digital printing with screen printed dividers.

It was a lovely day and great to get some feedback on this thing that has been filling my house with piles of paper for weeks.

‘A House Like Me’ is intended for educators wanting to work with conceptual art and is based around the themes in my own practice and the projects I have been doing in schools since last September. The book is not for sale, but a pdf version will be online soon, I will post a link as soon as it’s available. Some images can be viewed in the bookworks section on this website.

Just a reminder that the Liverpool Art Prize is only on for one more week, so do go and see it if you can – I’m not sure whether the work will be kept afterwards as it is just so big.

A few projects are being plotted at the moment, but I am currently busy finishing my year as bursary holder at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. I am making a limited edition book to mark the end of the year, so next week will be full of paper cuts and swear words.

The end of July and August are marked for the studio and some small projects, so looking forward to getting cracking on some new work.
