Milan

Back from a great week in Milan (with a brief visit to the Architecture Biennale in Venice too!). Thanks to Paola and Gianni for being such great hosts. The exhibition opening was a lovely evening and I met lots of interesting people. Here are a  few photos of the small but perfectly formed space below – better documentation of the work to be added to my website soon.

Showreel Project Milano

Packing up to go to Milan tomorrow and put up some work in this beautiful shop window as part of Showreel Project. The four previous installments (Teresa Gillespie, Alice Channer, Adam Thompson and Sinta Werner) all looked great and I am looking forward to meeting the curator Paola Caravati after a year or so of emails.

I have made a new piece especially for the window: egg-nest-home-country-universe and will post some images upon my return. If you happen to be in the area please come and visit!

No Soul for Sale at Tate Modern

Royal Standard will be taking part in No Soul for Sale, a festival of independentsno-soul at Tate Modern next weekend.

“To celebrate Tate Modern’s 10th anniversary, the gallery will host No Soul For Sale – A Festival of Independents. The festival will bring together over 70 of the world’s most exciting independent art spaces, non-profit organizations and artists’ collectives, from Shanghai to Rio de Janeiro, to take over the iconic Turbine Hall with an eclectic mix of cutting-edge arts events, performances, music and film.”

Can’t wait to see it all…. and try to fit in every gallery in London in two days…

Dumb Objects

At the moment I am working on some books for Liverpool Artists’ Book Fair and also putting together an exhibition ‘Dumb Objects’.

Dumb Objects will be at Wolstenholme Projects from 12th June – 28th June open Fri-Sun 12 – 6pm.

Private View is Thursday 11th June from 6pm, come along!

If you’re on facebook, have a look at the event here: Dumb Objects

DRAWN IN

I will have some work in the upcoming DRAWN IN exhibition at The Lost Soul and Stranger Service Station gallery next to the Bluecoat. The show is based around artists who look at drawing in an alternative way somehow. More information to follow when I know some!

Take the Floor @ Tate Liverpool

Last weekend, on the 10th January, a group of us from Wolstenholme Projects collaborated with Mellowtone to create a festival atmosphere inside the Fifth Floor exhibition at Tate Liverpool. The Tate are ticking their community boxes with this exhibition and have invited local studio and community groups to programe Saturdays in International Festival’s space.

After the scouse fashion show had finished (yes, pyjamas and boots did feature!), we started with a performance by PAC, then a 1940s style street party, with members of the public joining in (everyone loves a bit of free food).

Miss Willow set the tables dressed in black, perhaps mourning the end of the Capital of Culture?

Perhaps not…  Sue Massey and I set to work on creating a cityscape in the space – especially relevant to Liverpool this year with its constant construction and some town planning issues. Who knew JML push-on push-off lights could be so much fun.

In the evening, post fireworks, bands played to a huge audience and we all sat baking and squished. Excellent stuff.
