A Curriculum

wood, plastic, pencil and ink on paper, cast plaster, cast washing powder, cardboard.

This series shows the results of the A Curriculum residency during March/April 2010 at A Foundation, Liverpool. I spent the two month period experimenting with new materials and working on research and development. Rather than a major work, the resulting pieces (a small selection of which are shown here) from the residency represent sketches and rough ideas that will continue to be developed in my practice.

Some ideas behind the work include: gatehouses; the hexagonal shape that occurs repeatedly in many gatehouses; other small buildings like watch towers and huts built for protection or surveillance; Kafka's short story, 'The Burrow'; and architectural styles mirrored, for example, gatehouses that appear as miniature versions of the building they are attached to.
